Mindy's Drawing from 10/15/07
Doilie, 12" x 12", ink, pencil and gouache on rag paper
This drawing started as a search for the cross-section of geometric and organic that Carianne introduced in her last piece. The subject is my great-grandmother's hand-made doilie that sits on my living room table. I have always enjoyed the way in which the white lines of its geometric pattern become distorted and organic as it moves on the table. Also, I am interested in the play of positive and negative shapes; in previous drawings, the white gouache became negative space, and here, it is positive.
